Award winning Australian choreographer, Antony Hamilton (VIC) worked in collaboration with his brother Julian Hamilton (NSW) in a Final Stage Creative Development residency to examine the creative intersections between dance and music, drawing initial inspiration from silent film, culminating in premiere performances at Campbelltown Arts Centre.
Ruth is extremely bold, risky and daring, made within a multi roomed set installation, within which an audience of no more than 20 move from room to room to explore the work. The work choreographically explores strange and sometimes pedestrian and arbitrary interactions between two individuals, connected by need.
The development has offered the brothers the opportunity to reunite to work together collaboratively again, after working together for the first time on Antony’s new contemporary dance work, Keep Everything, which opened in Melbourne in 2012, though this time with an intentional emphasis on equal collaboration between each of their respective practices.
Ruth was sold out for all four performances to appreciative audiences. Ruth received an extremely positive review in the Sydney Morning Herald, calling the performance “Weird and intense, mysterious yet revealing”
