Artist/s: Choreographer: Julie-Anne Long (NSW), Music: Glenn Thompson (NSW), Performers" Georgia Briggs and Braxton Hegh (NSW)
Exploring satirical themes in pop culture, contemporary dance choreographer and tertiary educator, Julie-Anne Long (NSW) came together with musician and Custard drummer, Glenn Thompson (NSW) in a second and final stage interdisciplinary (dance and music) residency as part of I Can Hear Dancing. 4’33’’ Into The Past is an investigative study into the effects of taking your own advice.
The work delves into the symbiotic relationship between their art practices and life’s negotiations. The new work was presented to the public in two performances taking place in the Main Gallery at Campbelltown Arts Centre. The work was performed out of the context of a black box, instead it was created within and around an exhibition space with works on exhibition in the space. The concept of the work was designed to reflect upon past and present through the eyes of the artists and the young artists, and utilise low fi technology. Two local students, Braxton Hegh and Georgia Briggs from Campbelltown Performing Arts High were selected by Thompson and Long to work with in the development of the work, representing their younger selves.
4’33” was attended at capacity for both performances and received a review in the Sydney Morning Herald.
