Roger Knox is an Australian country singer, known as the Koori King of Country. He is a Gamilaroi man, born in Moree and grew up in the Toomelah Aboriginal Mission near Boggabilla. Knox was given the Jimmy Little Award for Lifetime Achievement in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Music at the 2006 Deadlys.
Knox along with the Pine Valley Cosmonauts, released his first album in nine years, Stranger In My Land in 2013. Knox will work onsite at the Centre along with the Pine Valley Cosmonauts to create new works. He will go into the local community and mentor young local Aboriginal musicians in Airds, Minto and Claymore. This will conclude in a presentation at the Centre.
The Aboriginal Musician Residency enables a senior Aboriginal musician to be in residence for two weeks to compose and present new works. Over a two week period, they engage with the local. community, connect with new audiences and mentor emerging local Aboriginal musicians. On conclusion of the residency they present new and existing works in a concert.
