OH! I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY was aimed at increasing audiences for contemporary dance at Campbelltown Arts Centre and provided a new model to achieve this. OH! I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY included residencies, new commissions, showings, workshops, forums and a publication that examined and responded to the intersections of dance and community. One particular project called WeTUBE engaged over 100 local participants to perform. at the opening in the gallery spaces and responded to a piece they found on Youtube. The Tea Party Project engaged over 40 local senior dancers in the foyer at the opening from the Centre’s Seniors Soiree program. For the Cybernetic Carnival Factory/Experimental Body Manufacturing Extensions Unit project, Paul Gazzola and Paul Granjon engaged 20 further local participants ranging in age from 10yrs old to 70yrs old to continue developing their extraordinary self-devised human extension projects which were modeled on the day. OH! I WANNA DANCE WITH SOMEBODY brought an exciting and fresh approach to current NSW dance events by hosting it in both the performance and gallery spaces of the Arts Centre. It contained an extraordinary range of new and innovative local, national and international dance works commissioned as part of the Arts Centre’s 2009-2012 Dance Programs and therefore reflects the Centre’s commitment to investing in new dance work. Discussions have begun around how the event itself, or cross pollination of its content, may be a potential touring concept to other venues. OH! I Wanna Dance With Somebody pulled together a year’s worth of residencies and working projects from 2012.
