Artist/s: Khaled Sabsabi
Campbelltown Arts Centre presented a major exhibition of new work, ON’n’ON by the artist Khaled Sabsabi. Sabsabi is a Western Sydney based artist that has made a significant contribution to contemporary visual arts practice in Australia.
In the exhibition ON’n’ON, Sabsabi explores complex local and global issues. His socially engaged work reflects the ways in which society engages with the concepts of conflict, war and the individual.
Born in Lebanon, Sabsabi migrated with his family to Australia in 1978, due to civil war in their homeland. Since the late 1980s, Sabsabi has been heavily involved in community work, especially with at-risk communities, in youth prisons, refugee camps and other facilities. This strong commitment to social issues is reflected in his art practice.
Campbelltown Arts Centre has supported Sabsabi since 2005. Campbelltown Arts Centre, in partnership with Casula Powerhouse, presented a solo exhibition by Sabsabi entitled Ali or 3li, that was on display at both Campbelltown Arts Centre and Casula Powerhouse in 2005.
