ASTRONOMY CLASS + SREY CHANNTHY

2015

Music; Live Interactive Performances

Artist/s: Astronomy Class (NSW), Srey Channthy (NSW/Cambodia)

The Cross-Cultural Residency is an opportunity for musicians from different cultures to create new works. It profiles and reflects the diversity of our communities in South West Sydney and creates understanding between cultures.

After a successful collaboration on Mekong Delta Sunrise, Astronomy Class and Srey Channthy came together for a 1 week residency at Campbelltown Arts Centre to develop new material for a follow up recording. This new material was recorded onsite at Campbelltown Arts Centre by the band including extra musicians on guitar, bass and horns and is scheduled for commercial release in 2016.

The residency concluded with a public performance at Campbelltown Arts Centre by Astronomy Class and Srey Channthy joined by special guest vocalist/MC Vida Sunshine. Local audiences and fans of hip-hop were treated to a wonderful performance with music ranging from their extensive back catalogue to Mekong Delta Sunrise to the first public performance of some of the newly completed material.
